Ruth Amos, hailing from Sheffield, operates Kids Invent Stuff, a channel that has amassed 71,000 followers since its inception in 2015. The premise of the channel involves primary school children submitting their invention ideas, which Ruth and her partner Shawn then bring to life. Ruth sheds light on the various revenue streams available on YouTube, including ads, sponsors, collaborators, and platforms like Patreon. She emphasizes the importance of diversifying income sources as a content creator.
Similarly, Lee Hinchcliffe from Barnsley embarked on his YouTube journey at the young age of 15, starting with gaming videos before exploring skits and challenges. His channel gained traction when he engaged in the McDonald’s Monopoly challenge, even though he didn’t win the grand prize. Lee reflects on how YouTube has been his creative university, enabling him to hone his craft over the years. This experience paved the way for Lee to transition into television presenting seamlessly, leveraging his YouTube background.
Steve Garbutt, aged 55, operates Yorkshire Car Restoration in Doncaster alongside his son Shane. Over the past five years, their YouTube channel documenting car restoration processes has flourished, propelling their business to new heights. Steve underscores the dedication required to succeed on YouTube, as it involves not only executing the work but also managing cameras, lighting, and editing post-production. He advises aspiring YouTubers to pursue a career they are passionate about and layer their content creation on top of it for a fulfilling experience.
