The latest project by The Cure, their fourth studio album ‘Songs of a Lost World’, is set to receive a makeover. In honor of frontman Robert Smith’s birthday, the band has revealed plans to release a new 24-track remix album featuring contributions from a variety of artists including Orbital, Four Tet, Sally C, and more.
Titled ‘Mixes of a Lost World’, the album is scheduled to be released on June 13 through Polydor, with all proceeds from recording royalties going to the charity War Child. The album will be available as a triple LP. The original record was released in 2024 and marked the band’s return to a full-length project after a 16-year hiatus, becoming their first album since 1992’s ‘Wish’ to reach number one in the UK.
Robert Smith shared in a statement to Pitchfork, “Just after Christmas I was sent a couple of unsolicited remixes of ‘Songs of a Lost World’ tracks and I really loved them.” He expressed his curiosity in how the entire album would sound when completely reinterpreted by other artists. The project includes remixes of all eight songs by 24 artists and remixers, resulting in a unique and exciting musical experience.
The album features remixes by artists such as Daniel Avery, Shanti Celeste, Mura Masa, Anja Schneider, Mogwai, Âme, meera, and many others.
