At the junction of Bishop Street and Nailors Row, close to the city walls, a petrol bomb exploded just outside the sheltered accommodation as police in riot gear observed a dissident republican parade from Creggan to the Bogside, led by around 50 individuals in paramilitary-style uniforms.

A vocal civil rights activist in Derry, Mr. Melaugh condemned all forms of violence, emphasizing their futility. He urged the younger generation to contemplate the repercussions of their actions on the local community. Meanwhile, DUP MP Gregory Campbell highlighted the fear faced by elderly residents at Alexander House during nearby disturbances, criticizing the use of children in violent acts and questioning the Parades Commission’s permission for the dissident republican parade.

Campbell raised concerns about the history of violence associated with the parade and questioned the Parades Commission’s decision to allow it despite the risk of paramilitary clothing being worn.
