Rail services are currently facing significant challenges as “urgent repairs” are underway on a bridge near Cardiff Central station, resulting in major disruptions from Sunday into Monday. Great Western Railway, Transport for Wales, and CrossCountry have all been impacted by the necessary repair work, leading to various journeys being either cancelled or suspended.
To address these disruptions, rail replacement transport services are being coordinated between Newport and Cardiff Central, as well as between Cardiff Central and Caerphilly. National Rail has issued a statement indicating that the major disruption is expected to persist until the end of the day on Monday, April 21st.
Several routes have been affected by the ongoing repairs, impacting services such as CrossCountry between Nottingham / Birmingham New Street / Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central, Great Western Railway between Bristol Temple Meads and Cardiff Central, and also between Bristol Parkway and Swansea, as well as Transport for Wales between Cardiff Central and Cardiff Bay / Ebbw Vale Town / Pontypridd / Merthyr Tydfil / Aberdare / Treherbert, and between Barry Island and Caerphilly, and also between Penarth and Cardiff Queen Street.
