Police have confirmed that an XL Bully, suspected to be the same dog that escaped last week during a shooting incident, has been located and euthanized. The incident occurred in Sheffield, where armed police officers tried to shoot the dog on April 3rd after it displayed aggressive behavior while they were responding to reports of gunfire at a property on Daniel Hill Street in Hillfoot. However, the dog managed to escape at that time.
The dog was found on Banks Hill Road on Friday at around 13:20 BST, and based on the recommendation of a veterinarian due to its injuries, it was decided that the dog should be put down. The owner of the dog has been notified, and she has disclaimed ownership of the animal. Following the dog’s escape last week, a city-wide search was launched by authorities, advising the public not to approach the dog but to contact emergency services immediately as it posed a risk of showing aggression and causing harm.
South Yorkshire Police have revealed that forensic testing of blood at the scene where the officers attempted to shoot the dog confirmed that the animal had indeed been injured during the incident. Ch Supt Jamie Henderson expressed gratitude to the public for remaining vigilant while the dog was on the loose. In connection with the initial firearms incident, five individuals were arrested, with two men subsequently charged with firearms offenses. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the reported firearms discharge on April 3rd, and anyone with relevant information is urged to come forward and assist the police
