The escalating gang feud between the east and west in Scotland has prompted a significant response from law enforcement officials. This feud has manifested in a series of deliberate fires in the Glasgow area that may be connected to various blazes and gun incidents in Edinburgh. Police Scotland confirmed that six properties in west Scotland were targeted within a week, leading to multiple arrests in the east of the country. During these incidents, weapons, drugs, and cash were seized, and extensive investigative measures were taken, such as visiting over 100 properties and reviewing more than 700 hours of CCTV footage.
Videos depicting the fires have circulated online, accompanied by threats against families associated with organized crime. The unrest in Edinburgh has been ongoing for weeks, but the conflict spilled over to Glasgow on April 3 when a deliberate house fire occurred in Cortmalaw Gardens in the Robroyston area. Subsequent fires were set at a garage on Milton Road in Kirkintilloch, properties in Gala Street and Ashgill Road in Glasgow, Meadow Court in Stepps, and a business premises on Wellington Road in Bishopbriggs on various dates in April. Detective Chief Superintendent David Ferry emphasized the importance of swiftly identifying those responsible for these dangerous acts, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for such behavior.
Meanwhile, in the east, the police have conducted search warrants and made several arrests. Two teenagers were apprehended on Thursday in connection with wilful fire-raising incidents. An 18-year-old man faced charges related to multiple incidents, including wilful fires at a location in Edinburgh’s Hay Drive, a premises on Albert Street, and a vehicle in the Parrotshot area. Further arrests are anticipated in the following weeks as authorities intensify their efforts to address this criminal activity.
