The horror game Still Wakes the Deep, set on a Scottish oil rig in the 1970s, also had a successful evening at the awards ceremony, winning three trophies. Another standout game from Sony, Helldivers 2, won two awards for best multiplayer and best music. The squad-based shooter became a surprise hit upon its release, forcing its developers to quickly increase server capacity to meet the high demand.
In a touching moment, two friends from Yorkshire were recognized for their game Thank Goodness You’re Here!, which won the award for best British game. Set in the fictional town of Barnsworth, the game features voice performances from the developers and actor Matt Berry. This win served as an inspiration for the duo to encourage others to tell their own stories in their unique voices without compromise.
The Bafta Games Awards, which have been running for 21 years, are known for causing major upsets in the gaming industry. At the ceremony, Yoko Shimomura, renowned composer famous for her work on the Kingdom Hearts series, received the Bafta fellowship for her contributions to gaming.
