Liverpool City Council’s Film Office recently wrapped up its 35th anniversary celebrations with a dazzling showreel. Crafted by the acclaimed LA Productions in Liverpool and curated by creative director Chris Bernard, the showreel aims to encapsulate 35 years of the Liverpool City Region’s presence in film in just over two minutes. This celebration can be viewed on the Liverpool Film Office website.
Over the past five years, the Film Office has significantly boosted the local economy by attracting £168 million in inward investments through supporting 1,564 productions, creating over 5,279 full-time equivalent jobs. The LCR Production Fund, initiated by Liverpool City Region’s Mayor in 2019, has already funded 10 high-end TV dramas, including award-winning series like “This City Is Ours” and “The Responder.”
Liverpool, as the second most filmed city in the UK after London, has emerged as a prime filming location for productions seeking diverse settings. Its mixture of grand architecture, industrial docklands, and serene beaches and countryside make it an enticing prospect for filmmakers. The recent showreel launch is part of VisitLiverpool’s “The Ultimate Setting” campaign, in collaboration with VisitBritain’s “Starring Great Britain” initiative.
Liverpool City Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing, and Culture, Councillor Harry Doyle, highlighted the city’s growing presence on screen over the past 35 years, illustrating the rich tapestry of architecture and landscapes that can attract more filmmakers and visitors in the future. The Head of Liverpool Film Office, Lynn Saunders, expressed pride in the team’s dedication to positioning Liverpool at the forefront of global screens, paving the way for continued growth in the film and TV industry for years to come
