An innovative app is giving children and young people in Liverpool a greater voice in the support they receive from services. Liverpool City Council has joined forces with Mind of My Own to introduce two apps for children, young people, and care-experienced individuals in the city who receive care and support from the council. These apps, already utilized by many councils, offer a new way for children and young people to communicate with professionals such as social workers, personal advisers, and support staff. This allows them to express their views, wishes, feelings, and provide feedback on various topics, including child protection conferences and looked-after children reviews.
Liverpool City Council is set to implement two Mind of My Own apps. The “One” app will cater to all children and young people, while the “Express” app will be designed for younger children and individuals with additional support needs. These apps have been particularly successful in giving a voice to those who struggle with social interaction. Additionally, a new app called “SHOUT” will be launched later this year, enabling the creation of surveys to gather children and young people’s viewpoints on broader issues.
Professionals working with children, young people, and care-experienced individuals will encourage them to use the apps, providing initial support with the technology and promoting independent use as desired. These apps are secure to use, complying with GDPR, the Data Protection Act, and the Information Commissioner’s Office’s Children’s Code. They are accessible on both laptops and phones and are available in over 100 languages. This initiative is part of Liverpool City Council’s commitment to becoming a Unicef Child Friendly City and their ongoing pursuit of excellence by prioritizing the involvement of children and young people in decision-making processes. Mind of My Own is seen as an instrumental tool in achieving this goal.
Alistair Eaton, CEO of Noveva Software Group and owners of Mind of My Own, expressed excitement about Liverpool joining their platform and capturing the voices of children and young people in the city. The partnership with Mind of My Own has already benefited over 120 children’s services, amplifying the voices of countless young individuals. Liverpool looks forward to providing their children and young people with a robust platform to voice their opinions and be heard, thanks to this innovative app
