In Yorkshire, Sally Millington, a 45-year-old woman from York, has taken on the challenge of trying 52 new things each year. This venture has not only boosted her confidence but has also introduced her to incredible individuals as she nears the completion of almost 400 challenges over seven years. From bell-ringing to cliff camping, dry-stone walling to stand-up comedy, Millington’s experiences have varied widely and pushed her outside of her comfort zone.
When reflecting on the origin of her idea, Millington mentioned receiving a voucher to try climbing, an activity she thoroughly enjoyed. This sparked a desire for more new experiences, leading her to set the goal of attempting 52 different activities in 2018. Among the wide array of challenges Millington has undertaken are barefoot running, blacksmithing, beekeeping, and even busking in a turkey outfit playing Christmas tunes on a kazoo. Each new endeavor has not only expanded her horizons but also provided valuable insights into her own capabilities and strengths. While Millington’s journey has been filled with excitement and growth, there remains one activity she is certain she will not pursue – bungee jumping.
Encouraging others to follow her lead, Millington emphasizes the importance of stepping outside one’s comfort zone, regardless of the scale of the challenge. By embracing new experiences, she believes individuals can uncover hidden talents, forge meaningful connections, and create lasting memories. Through her adventures, Millington has met inspiring individuals who have shared their passion and expertise, leaving her with tales to cherish and valuable lessons to carry forward
