Barry Can’t Swim is gearing up to release his highly anticipated second album, titled ‘Loner’, through Ninja Tune on July 11th. With the recent release of the new single ‘Different’, listeners can expect a dynamic club track that teeters on the edge of chaos, featuring chopped breaks, intense synths, frenzied vocals, and a thumping bassline.
This upcoming album follows the success of Barry Can’t Swim’s debut album ‘When Will We Land?’ in 2023, which earned him nominations for prestigious awards like the Mercury Prize, Scottish Album of the Year, BRIT Awards, and BBC Sound of 2025. ‘Loner’ delves into the artist’s introspective journey through newfound fame, providing a raw and authentic portrayal of his experiences over the past year, challenging both himself and his audience.
In a statement, Barry Can’t Swim expressed, “If my first album was a collage of all the music I loved and was inspired by growing up, then this album is the most authentic expression I could offer of myself and my life over the past year.” The album release will be accompanied by a series of headline summer shows, including appearances at London’s All Points East, Bristol’s FORWARDS, and Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool.
To celebrate the announcement, Barry Can’t Swim will be performing at Mixmag’s The Lab LDN on March 14th. Fans can check out the album artwork and tracklist below, and pre-save/pre-order ‘Loner’ for an immersive musical experience
