Man jailed for stalking Girls Aloud's Cheryl Tweedy in Buckinghamshire

A man who has been convicted of stalking Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy at her residence has been sentenced to 16 weeks in jail. Daniel Bannister, aged 50 and with no fixed address, specifically targeted the pop star, known as Cheryl, at her home in the Chalfonts region of Buckinghamshire. Bannister was already under a restraining order for showing up at the singer’s house on two occasions in January and July 2024, and he confessed to breaking and attempting to break the order by visiting her again in December.

The sentencing hearing at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court revealed that Tweedy spotted Bannister on a security camera at her property, causing her to feel “frightened.” District Judge Arvind Sharma not only sentenced him to jail but also imposed an indefinite restraining order against Bannister. The judge remarked that Bannister was aware of the distress and upset he was causing the singer through his actions.

Tweedy, who was not physically present in court, disclosed in a statement that she was able to view Bannister through her phone’s footage after he rang her doorbell in December. She expressed immediate panic and concern for her safety, attributing her fear to previous encounters with Bannister. Tweedy also expressed worry about protecting her child from any harm, especially since her son was about to return from the cinema. Bannister’s past actions included using an intercom at Tweedy’s residence in January 2024, claiming he had arrived to see Cheryl, and returning in July of the same year, requesting a glass of wine as he was thirsty.

Safeguarding measures have been put in place to protect Tweedy and ensure that Bannister does not pose a threat to her safety in the future
