Hardest Geezer Russ Cook begins running length of New Zealand

Russ Cook, also known as the Hardest Geezer, has embarked on a new challenge after completing his previous feat of running the entire length of Africa. The 27-year-old from Worthing, West Sussex, has set his sights on running the 1,864 mile (3,000km) Te Araroa Trail in New Zealand. This trail will take him through 60 ultramarathons, covering diverse terrains such as mountains, forests, coastlines, and cities.

Starting his journey at Stirling Point in Bluff, the southern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, Russ Cook will run northbound towards the finish line at Cape Rēinga in Northland over the course of approximately 60 days. Along the way, he expects to climb the elevation equivalent of about 10 Mount Everests in the span of 10 weeks. Additionally, he has thrilling activities planned, including bungee jumping off Auckland Harbour Bridge, canyon swinging in Queenstown, and skydiving in Abel Tasman.

Having raised over £1m for charity during his Africa challenge, despite facing numerous obstacles like visa issues, health concerns, geopolitical challenges, and even an armed robbery, Russ Cook is no stranger to adversity. His determination and passion for living adventurously are evident as he takes on this new extraordinary journey. As he continues to push his boundaries, Cook looks forward to embracing discomfort and personal growth throughout his latest expedition in New Zealand
