A church in Bournemouth will be transformed into a new nightclub set to open its doors in May, according to a report by the Bournemouth Echo. Sanctum, as it is called, is being marketed as Bournemouth’s ultimate nightlife experience and is scheduled to open on May 2. The club will take over the location formerly occupied by Halo.
Sanctum teased its upcoming opening on Instagram, promising top-notch sound and visuals along with world-class DJs. The venue is situated at the Church of Saint Andrew on Exeter Road in Bournemouth city center. Jeremy Gordeno, a nightlife entrepreneur, is the mastermind behind Sanctum’s launch. Gordeno had faced legal troubles in 2021, leading to a suspended prison sentence for failing to provide his ex-wife with a £20,000 sum.
Reportedly, Gordeno’s past ventures, including Summit Clubs and Grand Atlantic, have all been dissolved. Additionally, the Law Society Gazette stated that Gordeno filed for bankruptcy in 2024, linking back to a negligence claim against Irwin Mitchell Solicitors in 2022 over the sale of his £3.8 million house. The opening of Sanctum coincides with the closure of former club Halo in 2024, attributed to financial difficulties, according to the Bournemouth Echo.
Owner Ty Temel cited the cost of living crisis and Brexit among other factors, resulting in debts close to £400,000 owed by parent company Triangle Bars Ltd. Cash flow issues were a major challenge, with debts owed to debt collection companies and commercial lenders. Temel attributed the club’s demise to a declining club scene, as reported by the Bournemouth Echo
