A legal battle between a gardener and Paddy Power over a disputed £1m prize has ended with the gardener emerging victorious. Corrine Durber, a resident of Gloucestershire, found herself embroiled in the dispute after playing the Wild Hatter online game in October 2020. The game, consisting of a fruit machine and a wheel of fortune, displayed a jackpot win of “Monster Jackpot” amounting to £1,097,132.71 on Mrs. Durber’s iPad screen following a spin.
Despite the displayed win, Paddy Power only paid out £20,265, claiming that Mrs. Durber had actually won the smaller “Daily Jackpot” due to a programming error. Unsatisfied with the payout, Mrs. Durber took legal action against PPB Entertainment Limited, the company behind Paddy Power and Betfair, for breach of contract and sought the remainder of her winnings based on the screen display.
