Caroline Lowbridge wrote for the BBC News, East Midlands about the ongoing issue of drivers facing unfair penalties due to difficulties in entering car registrations correctly at parking machines. Drivers are receiving £100 parking charge notices (PCNs) for what are known as “keying errors.” Private car park trade associations acknowledge that drivers shouldn’t be penalized for “minor” keying errors, suggesting charges for “major” keying errors should be reduced to £20. Despite this, some drivers are still being taken to court if they refuse to pay the £100 fines.
One of the individuals affected by this issue is Donna Nash from Worksop, Nottinghamshire. She found herself in a legal battle with Excel Parking, resulting in an order to pay £282. Nash
