A man who was reported to the police for carrying a knife in Aberdeen was involved in a dramatic collision with a police car during his arrest. The incident, which took place in the Seaforth Road area on Friday afternoon, was captured on video showing the man flipping over the car bonnet before proceeding towards another officer.
In an attempt to disarm the man, police used a car and a police dog to corner him. Unfortunately, the police dog was reportedly stabbed during the incident and had to be taken to a vet for treatment. The 27-year-old man was subsequently taken to the hospital for his injuries and has been charged with various offenses, including one under the Animal Welfare Act. The situation has been referred to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc).
Police Scotland stated that officers utilized “specialist tactics” to ensure the safety of the public and themselves during the incident. A knife was recovered from the scene, and Police Dog Zeus, a six-year-old Belgian Malinois, underwent veterinary treatment for his injuries, with hopes for a full recovery. Seaforth Road was temporarily closed at the junction with Park Road, and police presence remains in the area as investigations continue.
