A recent court case in Coleraine has brought to light a disturbing incident involving a 40-year-old man who appeared in front of Coleraine Magistrates’ Court to face allegations of domestic abuse. The man, whose identity is being protected to safeguard the alleged victim, was brought before the court via video link from Waterside Police Station Custody Suite.
The charges against the man are grave, with accusations of behavior that caused physical or psychological harm to a woman he was personally connected to between September 2024 and February 13, 2025. The man is also facing charges of false imprisonment, common assault, and theft of the woman’s keys and bank card in January 2025. Additionally, he is charged with the theft of an adult toy, possession of knives and hammers with the intent to commit a sexual assault.
Further charges were confirmed by the prosecution, including the disclosure of a private sexual image or video without consent and criminal damage to a door. The discovery of incriminating items such as cable ties, blue surgical gloves, a mask, an adult toy, and condoms on Strand Road in Coleraine in February 2025 prompted police intervention after a homeowner found them next to their garage.
Despite no application for bail, the accused’s defense solicitor stated that his client denies all allegations brought before the court. The man was remanded in custody for four weeks, with a court date set for March 24, 2025. The seriousness of the charges and the unsettling nature of the items discovered indicate a distressing situation that is now being addressed through legal proceedings
