Virgin Media down: Firm apologises as thousands report outage

Virgin Media O2 issued an apology following a widespread internet outage in the UK that left thousands unable to access the internet. Reports from Downdetector indicated that over 10,000 people experienced issues with their broadband on Monday morning, with users starting to report problems just after 10:00 GMT. The Student Loans Company also addressed the issue on social media, informing users about the impact of the outage on their services. Due to the Virgin Media disruption, they could only provide general guidance with potentially longer wait times. Virgin Media has chosen not to provide details regarding the cause of the problem, with its X account responding to a query by stating they rarely disclose root causes to customers. In a report from January 2024, Ofcom highlighted Virgin Media as the most-complained about broadband provider in the UK, although subsequent analysis showed improvements in the company’s standing, with fewer complaints compared to TalkTalk, EE, and NOW Broadband as of February 2025
