Pedestrian dies after being hit by ambulance near Elgin

A tragic incident occurred in Moray where a pedestrian lost their life after being struck by an ambulance that was en route to an emergency call. The collision occurred on the A96 at Barmuckity, near Elgin, around 03:30 on a Saturday. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the 40-year-old victim succumbed to their injuries shortly after the accident.

Following the collision, the road had to be shut down between Reiket Lane and St Andrews Drive for approximately 10 hours. The closure was lifted around 14:00, allowing traffic to resume its normal flow. During the road closure, emergency responders were observed at the scene, inspecting the area where the tragic incident took place. The ambulance, which was involved in the collision, displayed visible damage to its front, including the windshield and bumper on the passenger side.

An eyewitness who passed by the scene the following morning described the lack of a sidewalk along that stretch of the A96, highlighting potential safety issues. The road in question, known locally as the Barmuckity Straight, lacks a footpath despite having street illumination leading up to a nearby roundabout. Authorities are urging individuals who may have witnessed the collision or captured it on a dashcam to step forward and provide any relevant information. The fatal crash took place on the outskirts of the town, approximately 38 miles away from Inverness, on a single carriageway A-road
