Victoria Scheer and Adam Laver have reported on a somber event happening in Yorkshire. The funeral of a 15-year-old boy who tragically lost his life after being stabbed at school is currently taking place in Sheffield. Harvey Willgoose was fatally stabbed twice in the chest at All Saints Catholic High School on February 3rd. The city has come together to mourn his passing, with his funeral being held at Sheffield Cathedral, and the service being broadcasted on a large screen outside for those unable to attend in person.
The Revd Canon Abigail Thompson expressed the shared grief of the entire city, stating that Sheffield is not a place where such tragedies typically occur. The loss of Harvey has deeply affected the community, as evidenced by the large turnout at his funeral. In a heartfelt statement released by Harvey’s family after his passing, they conveyed their devastation over the loss of their beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, and nephew. They emphasized Harvey’s compassionate, loving, and humorous nature, which endeared him to all who knew him.
As a show of solidarity against knife crime, Harvey’s parents, Mark and Caroline, led a march from Sheffield’s Town Hall to Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane football ground earlier this month. The demonstration, attended by around a thousand people, featured a prominent banner proclaiming “Lives Not Knives.” The march served as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of violence in the community and the importance of coming together to prevent such senseless tragedies from recurring. Harvey’s memory lives on as a beacon of hope and a call to action for a safer, more peaceful future
