New graves tell town's alarming tale of drug deaths

In the picturesque tourist town of Oban on Scotland’s west coast, new graves dot the fringes of Pennyfuir Cemetery, telling a troubling story of a lost generation. Among these graves lie James McMillan and Lisa McCuish, who grew up side by side in a cul-de-sac overlooking Oban Bay. Despite the town’s small population of 8,000, at least eight confirmed or suspected victims of drug misuse have been laid to rest here, with ages ranging from 26 to 48.

The alarming rate of overdose deaths in Oban has prompted calls for urgent action to address addiction issues in rural Scotland.
