The annual dinosaur beach race in Weymouth brought together over 100 participants dressed in dinosaur costumes to raise money for charity. This year marked the second iteration of the Chase the Dinosaur event on Weymouth Beach in Dorset, following a successful first event the previous year. Dawn Rondeau-Irvine, the chief operations officer at We Are Weymouth, expressed excitement at the turnout and described the event as an “incredible sight.” Participants of all ages took part in the races, including a 5km race for adults, a 2km race for under 16s, a 1km race for under 11s, and a short race for preschool-age children. Beyond the races, the event also showcased animatronic dinosaur displays and unveiled the initial phase of the Weymouth Fossil Trail, where attendees could embark on a fossil hunt through the town using QR codes to learn about its Jurassic history.
The event was not only a fun and festive occasion but also served as a celebration of Dorset’s rich Jurassic past. The unique combination of dinosaur-themed races, interactive displays, and educational activities made for an engaging experience for all attendees. With such a successful turnout and positive response, the annual dinosaur beach race in Weymouth continues to grow in popularity and support for charitable causes in the community
