Pat Limb has been a familiar face at St John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy in Kirk Hallam, Derbyshire, for the past 40 years. What started as a temporary position covering for one week turned into a lifelong commitment as she has served multiple generations of families at the school since 1985. Over the years, Ms Limb has taken on various roles including supervisor, senior supervisor, first aider, and now works in the school office.
In honor of her four decades of dedicated service, the school staff decided to commemorate the occasion by presenting her with a freshly baked large Manchester tart, a classic school dinner dessert. Reflecting on her time at the school, Ms Limb described it as “brilliant” and emphasized the strong sense of community and camaraderie among the staff and students. She expressed her love for the school environment, stating that it felt like being part of a big family.
One particular highlight of the celebration was the gesture from Stacey’s Bakery in Ilkeston, who heard about Ms Limb’s fondness for the coconut-topped fruit and custard creation. They specially baked a Manchester tart for her, adding an extra special touch to the occasion. As Ms Limb received this sweet treat, she reflected on the changes she has witnessed over the years, noting how the school’s dining experience has evolved from traditional sit-down meals to a more modern cafe setting.
Head teacher Steve Brogan commended Ms Limb for her incredible dedication to the school, emphasizing the positive impact she has had on the lives of countless children throughout her tenure. He marveled at the fact that she has been a steadfast presence at the school for two-thirds of its 60-year history, highlighting her unwavering commitment and service.
