£22.99A serious motorway accident occurred on the M11 in Essex, resulting in a driver being stuck in their vehicle which had collided with a Highways roadwork protection vehicle. Occurring between junction eight and junction nine for Great Chesterford, emergency services rushed to the scene and had to use hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the driver before being taken to hospital with serious injuries. The road was closed until 1:15 am.
Images posted on social media by Newport Fire Station and the Saffron Walden Fire Station showed the car with its roof, doors and windows removed as well as the highways vehicle at the scene of the collision where firefighters worked to free the driver. Essex Police revealed that the driver was seriously injured, and investigations are ongoing.
Accordingly, Essex Fire and Rescue Services, police, paramedics and highways officers attended the incident to stabilize the vehicles, administer first aid to the driver and extricate them from their car. The BBC has requested a report from East of England Ambulance Service to provide more details about the driver’s condition.
Highways England closed the motorway to facilitate the prompt cleanup of the affected area, which had to be cleared of debris.
