Free Oldbury sandwiches for all after West Brom loan signing

When the owner of Massey Cafe made a post on social media, neither he nor anyone else expected that it would go viral. Ritchie Massey promised on X that he would offer free sausage sandwiches if West Bromwich Albion signed Adam Armstrong on transfer deadline day. To celebrate the deal, which went through 14 hours after the window closed, Massey is now giving free sausage sandwiches to anyone who visits his cafe ahead of the Baggies home match against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, regardless of whether they are football fans.

“He reminds me of Kevin Phillips, a goalscorer, something that we’ve missed for a couple of seasons now,” Massey said of Armstrong. “It is a massive plus that has given us fans a big boost,” he added.

Massey’s post went viral after the football club’s own account reposted it and added “get the fryer on.” It received more than 1.2 million views and 500 likes on X. Massey said the signing of the Southampton striker was a significant move, given that it would allow the club to have a scorer, something they missed for a few seasons.

“We’ve received lots of new followers and friends; it’s amazing,” said an elated Massey. He had overnight preparations – ordering extra staff and more bread and sausages to cater to the expected high demand. Armstrong scored three goals in 23 appearances for Southampton this season and has now returned to West Brom, reuniting with boss Tony Mowbray. The deal made earlier was a loan initially then a transfer, worth £1.75m, then £15m when he moved on to Southampton.

“He first played for Mowbray as an 18-year-old on loan at Coventry City and bagged 20 goals in a memorable season,” said Massey. He concluded that Armstrong is a massive plus for the Baggies and is what the club needs now
