In light of recent controversies surrounding Elon Musk, his ex-partner Grimes has taken to Twitter to address “toxicity” and “Nazi-ism” within her fanbase. Last week, Musk faced backlash for using an arm gesture similar to a Nazi salute while appearing at Donald Trump’s second presidential inauguration. Musk later defended himself, stating that “the ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired.”
Grimes, who has three children with Musk, released a statement on Twitter to denounce Nazi-ism and white supremacy. She also apologized for not taking the issue more seriously sooner, acknowledging that some influential individuals within her fanbase have been promoting “Nazi-ism” and that these bad actors have even stalked and harassed some of her close friends and family.
Last year, Grimes faced similar accusations in response to critics labeling her a white supremacist for reportedly endorsing Nazi memes on Twitter. She responded by claiming to be a “human supremacist” and admitting to being “proud of white culture.”
Grimes’s recent Twitter statement addresses the President and CEO of SpaceX’s increasingly controversial public appearances and reveals the need to combat far-right extremism even within fandoms. By acknowledging the issue, she hopes to take a stand against such problematic behavior.
