DJ Lee Collins, a pioneer of Chicago house music, is facing a battle with cancer that requires urgent treatment. To assist the producer, the founder of Sounds Familiar, Ornella Cicchetti, and fellow Windy City DJ Sadar Bahar started a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds that will help beat cancer. The campaign aims to show Lee the love and support he has given for years, dedicating his life to creating unforgettable nights and sharing the power of good music at clubs and dancefloors. Despite the fight that lies ahead, Lee hopes to overcome this challenge by obtaining the necessary treatment. The fundraising target is $75,000, and donations of all sizes are welcomed.
Lee Collins caught public attention in Chicago’s budding house music scene through his college radio show in 1983, Disco Madness. It led him to create a club night at Music Box, where he played alongside iconic names like Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy, turning him an influential selector of the genre. Some years later, he teamed up with Sadar Bahar to make Soul in the Hole, a production duo that leads the label and event series subscribed by Dixon and Bahar in 1989. They have become well-known for their world-renowned event parties and releases, including the one hosted last year.
So far, the fundraising campaign has raised over $8,000 for Lee’s treatment. The DJs encourage everyone to support the cause, which goes a long way in helping with his recovery. On the campaign’s website, both Cicchetti and Bahar pledge all funds raised will go towards Lee’s life-changing treatment. Donating to the campaign reaffirms the message of solidarity against the fight with cancer, allowing the legendary Chicago house pioneer to heal and keep spreading the joy of music.
