Marcus Rashford: Aston Villa complete loan deal for Manchester United forward

Marcus Rashford has joined Aston Villa on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season, with an option to buy. At least 75% of the forward’s wages will be covered under the terms of the deal, according to United sources. There is no loan fee. Rashford praised Villa, who are close to signing Spain midfielder Marco Asensio on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, for their strong form this season and their ambitious manager.

Villa manager Unai Emery said the club “need new players” following their 2-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Wolves. While they have already signed Spanish full-back Andres Garcia from Levante and Netherlands forward Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund in January, they have lost Colombia striker Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in a £71m deal and centre-back Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce for around £8.45m. Injuries have also left Villa short, with England striker Ollie Watkins the latest to be sidelined.

The move comes after Rashford had reportedly claimed he was “ready for a new challenge” following his omission from Manchester United’s squad for the Manchester derby in December. He shared his excitement to play football and wish his former club Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season.

The talented 27-year-old Rashford started his career at Manchester United and joined the club’s academy aged seven. He made his senior debut in 2016, and has since scored over 80 goals for the Red Devils, with four goals and five assists so far this season. He has been capped over 50 times by England since his debut in 2016
