For over a year, the residents of Abbey Road and Wensor Avenue in Beeston, Nottinghamshire have been receiving monthly deliveries of peeled bananas on a plate. Last Saturday, a new plate of bananas was delivered, but mysteriously disappeared overnight. Investigative inquiries have proved fruitless thus far, as the identity of the fruit supplier remains unknown.
According to the residents of the area, each plate of bananas seems to arrive overnight between the first and second day of the month, with approximately 16 to 20 bananas per plate placed on the corner of the road. The strange occurrence has attracted a lot of attention, with visitors travelling from afar to view the bananas on a plate landmark. However, it has also caused concern among some neighbours regarding the mouldy bananas and cleanliness issues.
Luke Roberts and Jai Brewer were just the latest of many visitors who came to Abbey Road and Wensor Avenue to find the famous bananas, but were left empty handed. Alistar Exworthy, a local resident, also expressed his disappointment that the mysterious bananas were not on display, delaying his weekly grocery shopping trip in hope of seeing the fruit display.
On the other hand, many people find it entertaining, including resident Marie Smith, who had never seen anything like it before in her 48 years living in the area. However, some neighbours have attempted to deter the deliveries by placing a sign in the usual spot.
