The biggest lottery prize to go unclaimed for a week has been revealed by a spokesman after a EuroMillions jackpot of £83.4m was never claimed. The ticket was bought in a shop, but it’s not currently known where this was. On 24 January, the successful player matched all five main numbers along with the Lucky Star numbers 03 and 08. Allwyn – the operator of The National Lottery – said it’s very uncommon for such a large prize to remain unclaimed. They added that if the money isn’t collected by next Friday, “bespoke activity” would be undertaken in the area where the ticket was bought.
The senior winners’ adviser at Allwyn, Andy Carter, claimed that he can’t believe one lucky ticket holder out there hasn’t claimed it yet. He urged all EuroMillions players to check their paper tickets for the chance to claim the incredible jackpot prize. Even though there are currently nine other EuroMillions prizes that can still be claimed in the UK, this is the largest by far with a value of £83,474,081. The largest EuroMillions prize ever to not be claimed by a UK ticket holder was £63.8m back in June 2012.
Any player in possession of the winning ticket has 180 days to claim their prize from the day of the EuroMillions draw. To date, there hasn’t been any news as to whether the lucky winner has yet come forward. With a prize this large, it’s hard to comprehend why anyone would wait to claim it. Assuming the ticket remains unclaimed, it will become the largest EuroMillions prize ever to go unclaimed in the UK
