On Friday night, two police officers were injured during a disturbance outside Talbot Green police station in Rhondda Cynon Taf. South Wales Police was called in response to reports of a male outside the station. One male has been arrested and the police have asked local residents to avoid the area. The officers are receiving treatment for injuries that are not life-threatening.
A staff member at a local restaurant near the police station explained that they had been told to stay inside and that there was a “huge police presence” outside. Video footage shared online showed a number of police cars parked along the street nearby. The area was taped off, and about 20 police cars were in attendance.
Dawn Latcham, a witness to the incident, stated that a number of police cars drove past with their sirens blaring whilst she was in Talbot Green with her granddaughter around the time of the incident. Local takeaway worker Mohamad Osama said that the police had closed the road and were only permitting authorised personnel to pass through.
Alex Davies-Jones, a Minister in the Ministry of Justice and MP for the Pontypridd constituency which includes Talbot Green, said that her thoughts were with the injured officers and their families. She reassured the public that the police are doing everything they can to keep the community safe. Local councillor Sarah Jane Davies also urged the public to avoid the area, remain calm and stay vigilant.
The Talbot Green police station is close to the Talbot Green Shopping Park, which is visited by numerous people every day. Talbot Road has been closed in both directions, and coach company Stagecoach Wales has announced that it is unable to serve Talbot Green due to the ongoing police incident
