Michael Baggott: Flog It! antiques expert dies from heart attack aged 65

Antique expert Michael Baggott, who made appearances on the BBC series Flog It!, has died at the age of 51 due to a heart attack. During his tenure, he was recognized for his exceptional knowledge of antique British silver and early spoons. Baggott bought his first antique, a Chester silver Vesta case, when he was in school and his interest in antiques had germinated since childhood. Before joining Flog It!, Baggott was affiliated with Christie’s and Sotheby’s auction houses, where he ran the south silver department of the latter for four years. He subsequently acted as an antique silver consultant and has also written many antiques and silver-related books.

A statement on his X account declared that he had undergone a heart attack in October and passed away in hospital on Sunday. The statement called Baggott “a dearly loved son, brother, nephew, and uncle who will be deeply and profoundly missed.” Rob Unsworth, the head of BBC daytime and early peak commissioning, expressed his admiration for Baggott, calling him “one of Flog It’s most memorable characters, expert in all manner of collectables.” Nick Hall, a fellow Flog It! expert, praised Baggott as “a true connoisseur and ambassador of the antiques world.”

Though Flog It! discontinued production several years ago, Unsworth remained hopeful that the reruns of Baggott’s performances would continue to amuse viewers and provide solace to his family. The cancellation of the show marked its 18-year anniversary. A memorial service for the collector is expected in the coming weeks, with information regarding it to be shared on his X account
