During the call, the two leaders spoke about the importance of working together to maintain security in the Middle East. Trump welcomed the recent release of British-Israeli hostage Emily Damari. Despite having differing views on a number of issues, the tone of the conversation was positive.
Notably, Trump began the call by offering his condolences to Sir Keir for the death of his brother, Nick, who passed away last month. The two men discussed strengthening ties between the two countries and plans to meet in person at some point in the near future.
Although trade was mentioned on the call, neither party’s statement revealed any mention of potential tariffs that Trump has previously threatened to impose on UK goods. Instead, the leaders focused on how the two nations can promote a fair bilateral economic relationship.
This conversation marks the first time that Sir Keir has spoken directly with Trump since he took office. The UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, has said that the Prime Minister will be making an official visit to Washington to meet with Trump in the coming weeks
