Welsh opera singer, Wynne Evans, has publicly apologised for comments he made at the launch of the Strictly Come Dancing live tour earlier this month. During a photo session before the show, a Mail on Sunday reporter recorded Evans making what he later called “inappropriate and unacceptable” remarks. The BBC Studios and the Strictly Live Tour quickly issued a statement to say that they have a zero-tolerance policy towards this type of behaviour and that Evans was made aware of this.
Evans previously starred in Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 with dance partner Katya Jones, and has been on tour with the show throughout the country. However, he was unable to perform over the weekend in Glasgow due to an ankle injury, but still kept singing. Evans was also previously criticised for what was described as a series of awkward moments during the show, including a high-five that Jones appeared to turn down, and for placing his hand on her waist during an episode in October.
Last year, Strictly lost professional dancers Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima over allegations about their behaviour towards their dance partners. Following an internal investigation, the BBC apologised to actress Amanda Abbington over Pernice’s behaviour, in which she accused him of verbal bullying and harassment. The BBC has subsequently introduced new welfare measures for the show, including the use of chaperones in all rehearsal rooms.
Whilst Evans is most widely known for appearing in adverts for Go.Compare in 2009, he is also presenting the BBC series Wynne & Joanna: All at Sea
