The husband of Lamduan Armitage, the Thai woman whose body was discovered in the Yorkshire Dales in 2004, has been detained by police in Thailand. David Armitage, who has been living in Thailand since his wife’s death, did not report her missing and has not been interviewed by Thai or British police about her whereabouts. He has now been detained in Bangkok while his visa is set to be revoked.
Mr Armitage, who holds a resident visa, was detained on Thursday and transferred to the Bangkok Immigration Detention Centre after failing to file an immigration petition. As a result, he no longer has the right to stay in Thailand and will either move back to the UK or go to another country.
The identity of Lamduan Armitage remained a mystery for 15 years until her family saw a BBC News report and came forward. The investigation into her death is being conducted by North Yorkshire Police. A post-mortem examination carried out after her body was found on 20 September 2004 failed to establish how she died.
A cold case review was started in 2016 and advances in DNA testing enabled police to establish her identity. It was discovered that Mrs Armitage moved to the UK in 1991 with Mr Armitage after they were married in Thailand. They had been living in northern England before her death
