Kyle Camp, the leader of a gang that stole £4 million worth of luxury vehicles, has been sentenced to 14 years and four months in jail. Camp and his gang targeted high-value vehicles such as BMWs, Audis, and Mercedes across Greater Manchester. They would break into owners’ homes and threaten them with knives before stealing cars. The vehicles were then taken to chop shops, dismantled, and shipped abroad to be sold.
Seven other gang members aged between 15 and 20 have already been convicted, and Camp was sentenced after pleading guilty to burglary, theft, robbery, and handling stolen goods in Manchester Crown Court. The gang stole cars to order and began their spree in 2021, often stealing vehicles while their owners were asleep in bed.
One victim was so terrified that they relocated to another part of the country. The case against Camp was built through careful analysis of mobile phone evidence showing him boasting about his stolen cars on social media. Det Con Chris Chinnery said it involved “meticulous searching through mobile phone evidence”.
Police found that Camp was also involved in breaking into homes and stealing Volkswagen cars and motorbikes. In one instance, the gang used knives to threaten a victim as they stole their BMW. The gang’s crimes had a severe emotional and financial impact on their victims, who often had to relocate and deal with the ongoing stress of losing their vehicles.
