Taxi dashcam shows Axel Rudakubana before Southport attack

Axel Rudakubana was sentenced to 52 years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of murder and ten counts of attempted murder. The Liverpool Crown Court heard that Rudakubana had arrived at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class and killed three young girls. The incident took place on July 29, 2024, at The Hart Space in Southport.

The court heard that Rudakubana had booked a taxi under a fake name to travel to the venue. However, he refused to pay for the journey and got out of the taxi before entering the dance class. One week before the fatal attack, footage captured Rudakubana’s father stopping him from taking a taxi to his former school.

The court proceedings revealed that Axel Rudakubana had been diagnosed with a personality disorder and had a history of violence. The defense argued that he was suffering from a psychiatric condition and should not be held fully responsible for his actions. However, the judge dismissed the claims and stated that Rudakubana had shown a lack of remorse for his crimes.

The families of the victims expressed their pain and anguish in court and said that their lives have been shattered. They recalled the joy and laughter their children brought into their lives and how they were looking forward to a bright future. The sentencing of Axel Rudakubana brought justice for the victims and their families, but the pain of losing loved ones will never go away
