US woman in court over Birmingham shop owner murder plot charge

A woman from America has faced charges of conspiracy to murder the owner of a clothing shop located in Birmingham, alongside members of his community, upon appearing in a UK court. Aimee Betro from Wisconsin, had been arrested last year in Armenia over accusations she had faced from 8th September 2019. She is also charged with possessing a firearm with the intention of instilling fear of violence and is believed to have been in the import business of ammunition from the US to the United Kingdom.

During her appearance at Birmingham magistrates court, the 45-year-old indicated she would dispute all allegations. Betro had been remanded in custody after the brief hearing, awaiting the next one which is due at Birmingham Crown Court scheduled to be held next month. When she was charged on Thursday, the police mentioned that it was due to an incident that occurred in South Yardley where a man faced a situation where he was threatened with a firearm that then jammed, ultimately allowing him to flee.

Betro’s solicitor did not file for bail. She had flown to Gatwick Airport on Thursday to face charges. She had shown up at the five-minute hearing wearing a set of glasses and a gray top with her blonde hair sectioned into braids. Before her trial was adjourned until 14th February for the primary hearing, she confirmed her name, date of birth, and address in Armenia.

The accusation of conspiracy to assassinate the Birmingham shop owner and his family had been charged to Betro after counter-terrorism investigations carried out by West Midlands Police
