Warwick Davis: Harry Potter actor to receive Bafta Fellowship

Warwick Davis, the actor and television presenter, has been selected to receive the prestigious Bafta Fellowship, marking his steadfast contribution to the British film industry. Best known for his roles in Harry Potter and Star Wars, the Surrey-born actor also presents the popular game show Tenable.

Commenting on the honour, the 54-year-old referred to the accolade as “an incredible honour”, thanking Bafta “for believing in my journey”. He added that he accepts the award in honour of “everyone living with dwarfism or any form of difference, reminding us that our uniqueness can be our greatest asset”. The celebrated actor suffers from spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, a rare form of dwarfism.

Throughout his career, Davis has been an advocate of inclusivity in the screen industry and the founder of an agency dedicated to representing “little people” and those who are over 7ft tall. He thanked colleagues and friends for their work behind the scenes, pointing out costumers, makeup artists, and camera crews, who quietly and tirelessly pour their hearts into every production.

In its statement, Bafta wrote “The Bafta Fellowship is the highest honour we can bestow, awarded by the Academy and endorsed by the Bafta Board of Trustees,” before adding “We are thrilled to be honouring Warwick Davis with the award this year.”

The Fellowship award recognises industry figures who have made an exceptional contribution in the field of film, television, or gaming. Previous illustrious recipients have included Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Helen Mirren, Martin Scorsese, Sydney Poitier, Dame Judy Dench and Dame Vanessa Redgrave.

This year’s Bafta Film nominations are due to be revealed on 15 January
