A465: Work on Heads of the Valleys road to end after 23 years


The A465 Heads of the Valleys road in Wales is set to reopen after 23 years of roadworks. The road links the south Wales coalfields and runs through the Brecon Beacons national park. The improvement work has been done in six sections from the most dangerous to the least dangerous and has included building more than 40 new bridges and a dozen new junctions. Bats, dormice and great crested newts have all been relocated, while almost 285,000 trees have been planted to offset the project’s environmental impact. Critics have lambasted the use of the Mutual Investment Model to fund the work
