Gomersal: Banned driver hit garden wall after 90mph chase

A man named Liam Woods who was serving a sentence for dangerous driving was involved in yet another dangerous driving incident that led him to hit a garden wall at high speed before smashing the back window of the car. This resulted in a police chase which he attempted to escape before being caught by officers in a nearby garden. The 25-year-old was arrested in Gomersal Hill Top, Kirklees.

According to reports, Woods was driving at speeds of up to 70mph and ran red lights during the chase. As he drove on narrow and winding roads, he went up to 90mph and caused other drivers to swerve by driving towards oncoming traffic. It is fortunate that there were no serious injuries or fatalities as a result of his reckless driving.

Woods was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance, which he admitted to in the Bradford Crown Court. He was then sentenced to 16 months in prison and banned from driving for two years and eight months. The presiding judge, Judge Jonathan Gibson, pointed out that Woods was a dangerous person when behind the wheel and that it was only by a stroke of luck that no one was seriously hurt as a result of his actions.

Given that Woods had already been sentenced to two years in prison for serious injury by dangerous driving in 2023, this second offense reinforces the fact that he poses a grave danger to society and should not be allowed to drive. His female passenger was lucky to have escaped relatively unharmed after the car landed on its roof and hit a garden wall at high speed. It is hoped that Woods will learn a lesson from this incident and that he will do better to act more responsibly on the road in the future
