'Why Gavin & Stacey stars got in touch with me at Christmas'


The owner of a cafe that was featured in the hit TV series Gavin & Stacey has revealed that he struggled to hold back the tears while watching the show’s final episode. Marco Zeraschi, who runs Marco’s cafe in Barry Island, said that numerous members of the show’s cast and crew had been in touch to offer their thanks for his involvement in the series. However, despite rumours to the contrary, there are currently no plans to create a spin-off show.

Zeraschi also revealed that Larry Lamb, who played Gavin’s father Mick, has expressed an interest in moving to the area and might be visiting Barry this February. The cafe owner said that the episode’s broadcast had prompted an influx of visitors to Barry Island, with a number of fans travelling to see the location where the finale was filmed. Among the fans who visited was Derek Brockway, a BBC Wales weather presenter and Barry native.

James Corden, who co-wrote Gavin & Stacey, thanked viewers of the show and shared a goodbye message on social media. The final episode, which was broadcast on Christmas Day and attracted 12.3 million viewers, is the highest-rated Christmas Day programme since 2008
