Brighton: Man raped in city centre, police say

Police in Sussex have released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to in connection with the alleged rape of a 19-year-old man in Brighton. Officers said the man was approached by two individuals near Harry Ramsden’s restaurant in Old Steine at around 3:30am on Saturday 5 June. The suspects then took him to Steine Lane where they allegedly raped him. Det Insp Sean Booth from Sussex Police described the incident as “a deeply concerning incident.”

The police have appealed for information in regards to the incident as they continue to investigate. Sussex Police have urged anyone who may recognise the suspects from the images released to come forward, as well as anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the attack. The area where the incident occurred is often populated both during the day and at night and is known for being a popular cut-through route, connecting East Street to Old Steine.

“We are supporting the victim as our enquires continue”, said Detective Inspector Sean Booth. “There is no place for sexual violence in Sussex and we take any reports of this nature extremely seriously. Your information could be key as we work to identify those responsible”.

The CCTV footage released by Sussex Police clearly shows the two unidentified men police are seeking more information about. One has blond curly hair and is dressed in a black t-shirt, while the other has dark straight hair and is dressed completely in black. The men were both thought to be either in their 20s or 30s
