South Ockendon murder charge over death of boy, 5


A 35-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of a five-year-old boy, Lincoln Button, who died at an address in Windstar Drive in South Ockendon, Essex on December 15th. Claire Button, of Windstar Drive, South Ockendon was arrested and questioned after being taken to hospital for treatment when her condition improved. She will appear before magistrates in Southend on Monday.

Det Ch Insp Alan Blakesley, of Essex Police called the case “an immensely complex investigation into the death of a young child,” asking members of the public to “refrain from speculating about the circumstances around this case,” while expressing his thoughts for the Button family, “It has taken a huge amount of work and dedication from the investigative team to reach this stage in our investigation and I would continue to call upon the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances around this case.”

Lincoln Button was a Year 1 pupil at Bonnygate Primary School in South Ockendon and his death is being actively investigated while the school is working closely with authorities. The school’s spokesperson expressed their sorrow, “His love for school, laughter and cuddles will be remembered and missed dearly. The school’s priority is to support those within the community who need help to come to terms with this tragic loss.”

Members of the Button family also expressed their grief saying that “Link was a cherished, loved, sweet, beautiful young soul who was adored by all and will be sorely missed every day.” The investigation remains ongoing while the family and community come to terms with the tragic loss
