Slowthai trial: Rapper cleared of raping fan after gig


British rapper, Slowthai, whose real name is Tyron Frampton, has been cleared of three counts of rape at Oxford Crown Court. His co-accused, Alex Blake-Walker, was also found not guilty of one count of sexual assault. The charges followed an after-show party at The Bullingdon, in Oxford, in September 2021.

The trial lasted 10 hours and the jury reached their verdict after more than 10 hours of deliberation. The court heard that Mr Frampton and Mr Blake-Walker had been invited to the party by a group of women they met before his show. Prosecutors alleged Mr Blake-Walker raped one woman while Mr Frampton twice raped the second complainant.

Mr Frampton agreed that sexual activity took place with the second complainant but maintained it was consensual. When the verdict was read out, Mr Frampton broke down in tears in the dock, while the public gallery also broke into tears.

Mr Frampton has released three albums and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2021. He was also nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2019. However, he was removed from the line-up of Glastonbury Festival, as well as Reading and Leeds, after he was charged in 2023.

The judge in the case, Judge Ian Pringle described the case as having “raised a lot of high feelings”. Mr Frampton was supported throughout the trial by his wife, pop star Anne-Marie
