Boy, 2, dies and two critical after hit-and-run in Smethwick


Over the weekend, a young boy lost his life in a hit-and-run incident that involved a stolen car. The two-year-old was killed during the incident, whilst four adults were taken to hospital with injuries. The crash occurred near Dartmouth Road in Smethwick, UK, when a silver Porsche Cayenne collided with a Toyota Auris, which contained the aforementioned victims. The Porsche was travelling in the direction of Kenrick Way from a nearby roundabout.

Whilst the local police have opened an investigation into the matter in an attempt to apprehend the perpetrator, the area was closed down for an investigation to take place. Police detectives have called for the driver of the Porsche to hand over theirself. The car was reportedly taken in a recent theft, with the driver leaving the scene after hitting the other vehicle.

The incident is the latest in a string of incidents involving the theft of motor vehicles, with many urging for increased security measures to be installed in a bid to combat the trend. Additionally, this case will no doubt reignite the discussion surrounding the potential for greater enforcement of driving regulations in residential areas.

Speaking in the wake of the event, Det Sgt Paul Hughes from the unit commented: “I would urge the driver of the Porsche to do the right thing and come and talk to us. They made the wrong decision to run away and I’m asking them now to make the right one.” The event has certainly brought mourning to the local community, and an investigation is ongoing in search of the perpetrator of the hit-and-run
