Flights grounded over IT issue at Edinburgh Airport

Edinburgh Airport, one of Scotland’s busiest airports, has been hit by a technical glitch that has caused the grounding of all flights. The airport’s air traffic control has been affected by the IT issue that is currently being investigated. Incoming flights have been diverted to other airports as engineers work to fix the problem. At this time, no departures or arrivals are permitted at the airport, and its spokesperson has urged passengers to verify the status of their flights with their respective airlines before coming to the airport.

According to reports, the technical problems began early in the morning, forcing the immediate cancellation of all flights until a solution is found. Some passengers have been stuck in the terminal building for hours. Edinburgh Airport has staff on hand to offer support and advice to those affected by the disruption.

The issues have predominantly affected domestic flights from Edinburgh servicing destinations in the rest of the UK, particularly London and Dublin. Edinburgh Airport serves nearly 14 million passengers and was ranked as Scotland’s busiest airport in 2019. With many summer holidays and essential business journeys forthcoming, the disruption is expected to cause severe delays over the coming days until the problem can be resolved.

We will keep you updated with further developments and would recommend following the airport’s social media pages for the most recent information if you are planning to travel to or from Scotland
