Record-breaking teen speed climber aims for LA 2028 Olympics


Ava Hamilton is a 17-year-old speed climber from Scotland who has her sights set on competing at the Olympic Games. She set a new UK women’s record during the European Championships held in Villars, Switzerland last September. Ava climbed a 15m wall in just 8.64 seconds, setting a new national record for women.

When asked about her goals for the future, Ava stated that competing at the LA 2028 Olympics was her “massive goal.” She has been training tirelessly to perfect her technique and improve her speed, with the ultimate goal of representing her country on the world stage.

Speed climbing was recently added as an Olympic sport and made its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The sport involves climbing a 15m wall as quickly as possible. The top eight climbers with the fastest times qualify for the next round until the top three go head to head for the gold medal.

Ava’s passion and determination for the sport is evident, and with her impressive performance at the European Championships last year, she is well on her way to achieving her goal of competing at the Olympic Games. As she continues to train and improve her skills, she hopes to inspire others to take up the sport and pursue their own goals and dreams
