Liverpool FC staff party in cathedral halted over drug fears

Liverpool FC has stated that it does not accept the use of illegal substances at any of its events or venues after its staff Christmas party was shut down early due to reports that drugs were found. The football club confirmed that an incident had taken place at the event, where none of its players or first team manager were in attendance. The party was for non-footballing staff at the Anglican cathedral in the city. Staff at the cathedral ended the party, stating that an incident occurred that was not in line with its values.

Reports have revealed that a search was prompted by one of the attendees suffering a medical episode. Photographs shared by club staff showed a lavish arrangement with dining tables bathed in red light and the Liverpool club crest projected onto the inner walls of the cathedral, the largest in Britain and fifth largest in the world. The cathedral said it hosts such events to help keep the site open and free to enter for the public.

Liverpool FC released a statement thanking the event team at the venue for its swift action and professional response to the medical emergency, which was unrelated to the concerns at the party. The club has further emphasized that it does not condone or tolerate the use of illegal substances at any of its sites or events. The staff member who suffered the medical emergency is reportedly recovering well after receiving treatment at the hospital.

Liverpool Cathedral has stated that the team on duty followed the correct procedures to bring the event to an early end. It expressed its gratitude to its staff and Liverpool FC for the swift actions taken and partnership working and has promised to continue to review its procedures and mitigation measures for future events
